General and Specific Arguments

Here is a list of general and technical arguments that you could provide to the Mayor and your Councillor in an attempt to convince them to support the 2011 Budget funding request from the Minnow Lake Community Action Network – Dogs Off-Leash in Greater Sudbury Committee.   For more examples open one of the 'General Arguments' documents, (in either PDF or Word format) at the top of the page.

Here are a few examples:

  • More people own dogs than play any sport - hockey, baseball, soccer (whatever) and we spend millions of dollars on these activities.  A dog park would be a tiny fraction of leisure spending and would benefit potentially many thousands of dog owners and their pets.
  • There are more dogs than kids in Sudbury (as least in school).  There are dozens of playground areas for kids.
  • The skateboard park in Minnow Lake cost a reported $485,000 and is just for a limited number of kids.  The projected cost for the off-leash area is just $123,000 and includes a new road entrance, a parking area, removal of some waste material and fencing (about $50,000) and will be used by all citizens (50,000 people own dogs). Most all other forms of leisure services - hockey, soccer, baseball etc. all cost more.  This project is a leisure services "bargain".
