About

The D.O.G.S. Committee began in January 2010 as a grassroots organization to advocate for the creation of the city’s first dog park in Minnow Lake.

From February to May 2010, the committee did its research about the various off-leash dog parks in Ontario, consulted with municipal leaders and city staff, conducted a survey of Minnow Lake Residents and produced a final report for City of Greater Sudbury.  It presented its finding in June 2010 to the planning committee of the City of Greater Sudbury  At the end of that meeting the City Staff have been directed to work with the D.O.G.S. Committee to research the issue and prepare the necessary material to go before the  city budget meeting in late fall.

In the fall the D.O.G.S. Committee was successful in encouraging all members of City Council to support the creation of the city’s first Off-Leash Dog Park.  They have provided funds to do the site preparation and removal of construction debris that is currently on the site.

The D.O.G.S. Committee will have to approach the City Council once again to obtain funds for the fencing of the property so that it can contain two dog run areas, one for large dogs, and another for smaller, slower or older dogs.
